Human Biology Workshops

Learn about Anatomy, Physiology and Case Studies

Presented in a fun and engaging style, the human bio presentations are an in-depth venture into the world of emergency medicine, pharmacology, and anatomy. Each month, a presentation will be given based on a case study found in the literature. The presenter will expand on the topics covered in order to create both a comprehensive medical history and story. This keeps the presentation accessible to everyone while providing more advanced subjects to those who are already familiar. Our team, also provides support and feedback for those interested in creating new sessions and intends to collaborate with Hackathons in future.

Novel Anabolics and Health

November 4th, 2021 7:00-8:00pm EST

Join us Thursday, November 4 at 7 pm for a literature review and discussion of RAD140, MK677, and LGD4033, which are new performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs). Selective Androgen Receptor Molecules (SARMS) and similar PEDs have come into vogue as safe alternatives to traditional steroids. The absence of human trials has contributed to this misconception, and amateurs as young as 16 are taking these research chemicals to improve muscle mass. However, an absence of evidence is not evidence of absence, and a few case studies have revealed darker consequences.

Case Study:
Antibiotic Induced Cardiac Arrest

April 9th, 2021 8:00-8:30pm EST

For our third case study presentation, learn about the strange case of an antibiotic induced cardiac arrest in a 9-year old cancer surviver. Through this presentation, we’ll explore the cardiac system, emergency medicine, and a rare life-threatening syndrome.

Medical Case Studies in Systems Biology: Drug Metabolism

February 19th, 2021 8:00-9:00pm EST

Join us this Friday, February 19 at 8:00 pm EST for the first case study presentation by the Human Biology sector of Systems Biology initiative. The topic will be how drug are metabolized in the body, and how interactions can lead to medical emergencies. Come learn about biology and medicine while being entertained!
